Free Movement

In the latest Doula Training Seminar, we delved into the world of free movement and infant psychomotor development with @arteterapiaviva and Iraide Rabadán.

Free Movement allows children to move at their own pace, without unnecessary intervention, respecting their timing and needs. It’s important that the adults we accompany can connect with trust in the learning process and permission to explore.

What benefits does it have?

  • Promotes psychomotor development
  • Enhances autonomy
  • Stimulates coordination and balance
  • Strengthens self-esteem

Keep in mind that it’s best not to sit your baby down until they’re able to do so independently. Ideally, you should be able to adapt the space to a safe place that allows for exploration. Be aware that the way you support your baby’s development and development of movement is important.

How can we facilitate spaces for Free Movement?

  • Creating safe and spacious areas
  • Confortable clothing and barefoot
  • Supervision without constant intervention
  • Trust in Your Baby’s Process

Allowing your child to move freely offers them the opportunity to develop their body and intelligence.” Emmi Pickler
